Father Figures is a 5 piece zombie jazz band, collectively formed by friends while learning “jazz” at “NYU” in “2008.” I play tenor sax and Realistic Concertmate keyboard and loops and effects, Jas Walton plays tenor sax, Spencer Zahn plays bass, Ross Edwards plays keys, Ian Chang plays the drums. We all write for the band, 75% improvised and we improvise in a way that sounds composed. We owe a lot to Ralph Alessi and Wayne Krantz and lots of other people personally. We like to play in rock clubs and basements and regret playing when people are eating. Because they spit up their food out of sheer joy.
Our first album is available on Itunes, improvisations onto 4track cassette chopped and arranged. Our new EP is the result if a larger recording session with studio wizard Shane Stoneback, tracking a bunch of our songs to 2” tape and really capturing the energy of the band. I’m super proud of it.
